you were born bound in chains
in an underground cave
I can't see sideways
I can only look forward
to never ever turning my head
There's a fire from afar
behind a long wall
and the fire and the wall
look like a puppeteer's sideshow
it's a curious image, with curious prisoners...
They are unaware of the fire, let alone that children walk past the fire holding statues, casting shadows onto the wall in front of the prisoners...
And so they believe the shadows, and name them, because this is all they can see.
I stood and turned my head
the fire, the statues, the wall
I knew it wasn't real
they pulled me from the cave
the light, the heat, the sun
I knew it wasn't real
Inside the shadows I see phantoms of humans if I stare at the heavens too long
I fell in love with the meanin' of season
and the cycle of Demeter's loss
I take myself out of the picture
and I pity my friends in the cave
I descend to tell them all of the things
that I know and I know that it's safe
but it wasn't
and they got angry, and now...
Now my friends
they all want to kill me
and they're coming to kill me
and they're all comin'
And my friends
they're all trying to kill me
so they're coming to kill me
and they're all comin'
