about

I’m not quite sure when we decided to abandon this song. Perhaps it was upon the realization that we had already proclaimed our allegiance to a rather contrary sleep schedule in Afternoon Man. You see, one cannot demand to be left alone to their slumber until the afternoon, while also declaring their love for the early morning sunrise. Either that or the song’s rejection is based solely on the fact that our drummer’s wife’s name is Dawn, and this song was penned before his induction into the band. We can’t have Scott going through life thinking we wrote a song about his wife. That’s just weird. Besides, he would probably run around telling people he wrote it, which would be a lie. In all actuality, his older brother Jason Trujillo wrote it, which makes it even weirder that his brother wrote a song about his wife.

lyrics

Dawn Dawn Dawn Dawn

I love to see the dawn
So early in the morning
right before it's gone

maybe when you wake up
or did you stay up
all night long again?

way beyond the mountain
the sun is shouting
here I come again

Dawn Dawn Dawn Dawn Dawn
I listen to the dawn
the second it is breathing
is the moment that it's gone
